Public Health Preparedness Plan

Course Description
This course will provide the Public Health workforce and community partners (EMS, police, fire, emergency room personnel, etc.) with key fundamental concepts related to public health response plans for serious and large emergencies.
Participants will learn about the response plans for Mendocino and Sonoma counties, and the plans for other counties in the region. This training will explore basic concepts related to the Strategic National Stockpile, Risk Communications, Quarantine and Isolation and the Standard Emergency Management System (SEMS).
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Describe three basic concepts of the public health response plans.
- Explain two reasons for a risk communications and public information plan.
- Explain how the Strategic National Stockpile will be utilized in the event of a mass biological emergency.
- Identify and locate the Response Plan (or in large agencies, the pertinent portion of the plan) for their agency.
- Describe their functional role(s) and responsibilities in emergency response.
- Demonstrate their role(s) in regular drills.
- Assure that the agency (or agency unit) has a written, regularly updated plan for major categories of emergencies that respects the culture of the community.
