MDs, RNs, PAs, NPs, and EMTs, first responders, hospitals, clinics, health departments, emergency medical services, extended care facilities, HRSA entities, and emergency preparedness planning partners.

Course Description
This course will explore the need for closer collaboration between the LRN Reference Lab and the Sentinel Laboratories, community physicians, hospitals and other community health care providers. The speaker will outline laboratory tests done currently at the Sonoma County Reference Lab, as well as new tests becoming available using molecular techniques. The use of real-time PCR tests for the diagnosis of whooping cough, TB, flu and other infectious diseases using the Light-Cycler will be elaborated.
Some case reports will be presented that will emphasize the tests that will be useful to Sonoma County and regional physicians for the care of their patients, and that are performed only at the Sonoma County Public Health Laboratory. Specimen collection and transportation to the laboratory will be discussed.
