Course Description
This course will explore the infectious agents used to intentionally cause disease or inflict terror in a population. Such agents will include: anthrax, smallpox, botulism toxin, plague, tularemia, and viral hemorrhagic fever. Participants will learn to recognize illness patterns and diagnostic clues that might signal an unusual infectious disease outbreak due to intentional release of a biological agent, and learn where to report these concerns.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Discuss appropriate reporting of unusual infectious diseases
- Discuss 3 reasons why it is essential to improve awareness of biological agents that could potentially be used to intentionally cause disease
- Recognize deviations from the norm that might indicate an emergency and describe appropriate action
