Personal Readiness Kits (Advanced)
Target Audience
Department of Health Services staff, disaster service workers, mental health staff, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers.

Course Description
This course will prepare disaster service workers, MRC volunteers, and other DHS support staff for proper selection and use of the supplies and equipment needed for a critical incident, natural disaster or any emergency field assignment.
This workshop will include a brief lecture using the MRC Field Guide, followed by a demonstration of 10 essential items of equipment and supplies to bring to a critical event site.
Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately (i.e. for a disaster) and bring their current personal readiness kits. Participants will sample emergency foods and compare clothing and kits approved in the MRC Field Guide. Participants will be given suggestions on ways to improve their personal readiness kits.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- List 5-10 essential pieces of equipment needed in personal readiness kits.
- Learn how to use the ten essential pieces of equipment in a personal readiness kit.
- Explain the importance of personal readiness kits prior to, during, and after an event.
- List four local places that sell personal readiness equipment and supplies.
