Disaster Response Training for Nurses
Target Audience
Department of Health Services staff, disaster service workers, mental health staff, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers.

Course Description
In this workshop participants will learn some basic principals of the nurse's response to disasters. Participants will hear two case examples of nurse's roles, responsibilities and challenges during real response settings. The presenter will explain some basic gear and preparation a nurse should achieve prior to a critical event. The format will be presentation/discussion. Participants will be asked for their case examples of nurses responding to critical events.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Describe the basic equipment, supplies and preparation needed for nurses to respond to critical events.
- List 3 differences and similarities of disaster nurse response from routine hospital care.
- Learn the basic skills and knowledge enabling them to conduct a basic orientations about nurses response to disasters to fellow colleges and staff.
